When designing our Minne Mitts, our goal was simple: stylish fingerless mitts, with a go-to pattern we could knit over and over again. We wanted them to look great in many different yarns, and wearable for most hand sizes. Here's how we did it:
First, the design. We kept it simple, and made sure Minne Mitts look good on both sides. Even better, you'll knit two identical knits to create a pair with visual punch, and to make knitting lots of them easy.
Next, the fit. We kept them short, so there's no extra fabric getting in the way of your sleeves. We chose a DK weight for warmth without bulk. And because all yarns behave differently, you can choose the one that works for the size hand you're trying to fit. For instance, Rimu DK
and Water Street
make a flatter, and therefore larger mitt. Maai
and Life Style
have a bit of spring to the fabric, perfect to grip a smaller hand. You can even go up a needle size and use a light worsted weight yarn for extra-large hands.
Finally, the value. We made sure that a pair of Minne Mitts can be knit with just one skein of all the yarns we tested. You'll want to try these mitts in a variety of yarns; they're so much fun to knit!
