About Us

One Yarn quilted hanging created for The Yarnery by Carl Rohr.

The Yarnery has been a Twin Cities staple since 1972, and we're proud to be constantly evolving. What started as a weaving-focused vendor stall in the seventies became a yarn shop in a series of locations in the eighties and nineties—including Rosedale Mall. And of course, many will fondly remember our longtime spot in "the old house" on Grand Ave, home to cozy classes and knit-alongs, trunk shows and visitors (some with wagging tails), and endless nooks and crannies stuffed with favorite yarns.

At The Yarnery's gorgeous current location on Selby Ave, we've put customers, color, and love of craft front and center. Light and color, color and light: those are the comments we hear the most, and we love it, too! And we're excited that our current space offers an accessible restroom and classroom, because inclusion is at the heart of The Yarnery's values.

We're a learning-focused yarn shop. Check out our ever-evolving class schedule, and feel free to make suggestions. We love to try innovative techniques and we're always on the lookout for great new designers. We stock yarn for every budget (seriously, check out Holst Garn), and hard-to-find brands (have you tried Scheepjes? or CaMaRose?). Sustainability is important to us, and we work hard to source as much local and American-made wool as we can (we're big fans of Brooklyn Tweed and Anthology Yarn Co). As a learning-focused shop, we know that we're always learning too, and we love your feedback.

At The Yarnery, we want you to find success; whether you're brand new to knitting and crochet, or ready for bigger, bolder challenges, we've got your back. Stop in for a visit, and let us know how we can help!

Accessibility

There are no steps between the sidewalk and the entry to the shop. A single stall, all gender, wheelchair accessible restroom is located on the main level of the shop. Both the restroom and our classroom are accessed via a gently sloped ramp leading to the rear of the store. Give us a call at 651-222-5793 if you have questions about the layout of our space or concerns about your visit.
