From Nolan Bag Works in Minneapolis. Gregg Ward makes bags to exacting standards using a variety of repurposed textiles. Gregg has created a beautiful, useful project tote just for us — with extras!
The Project Tote is constructed using upcycled 90s French military surplus and thrifted industrial felt, finished with silver nickel rivets and leather sourced from the SB Foot Tanning Co in Red Wing, Minnesota. Totes feature both and outside and inside felt pockets. The marled grey wool-blend felt of the totes themselves was originally manufactured for bedrolls, meaning it's incredibly strong and resilient yet lightweight. You may even see serial numbers stamped on some of the fabric from its original intended use.
The matching notions pouch is made from the same 5 mm felt as the tote bag's pockets, with an inset zipper and leather carrying loop. It's easy to detach the pouch from the tote (ingenious hardware!) and use the pouch on its own.
Also included is a detachable six grommet yarn minder. Taking inspiration from a vintage Swiss military luggage tag, this yarn minder has a leather snap closure that allows you to use it inside or outside of the tote or to be transferred for use on another bag or basket. The six large grommets allow yarn of any size to feed smoothly and reduce tangles.
The Project Tote Bag includes both the Notions Pouch and Yarn Minder.
